Eye Eye Chicken Pie, Glad to hear that you are back home and feeling more orange than blue; Absolutely magic news; Weight gain will come with time tiger, little and often sounds like a great plan to me; I always got told off for grazing throughout the day but in your circumstances i thinks it will work well; Hope your family and the irrapressible Jk are in good health and great spirits; Staying in a cool hostel that overlooks some snowy mountains and a beautiful bay; Went for a long walk to some NZ Fur Seal colonies; I love seals, they are just so lazy; They luxuriate in the sun and only the youngsters appear to frolick in the water; Still, laze away while the sun shines! Miss you all loads, take care and oodles of love coming your way, Hugs too! oli

Hi Justine; Read your last diary entry; Awww babe, you're allowed to be a bit emotional after everything that you've been through; And this set-back must feel like a bit of a kick in the teeth, when all you want to do is go home and start living your life normally again; Be patient honey, you'll get there, you know you will; Sending you lots of positive thoughts; xx

Dear Justine, Not sure of any news as the computer is showing no recent updates; I hope you are well but I thought you might like another poem; This one is a little different because it is not about you or nature, it is about your fiancee; A legend in more than than his own lunchtime! by Oliver Renier Nash There once was a boy called Johny Kohn Someone to call a friend, fiancee or brother A lad to count on, who would never abandon you, whether you were kith,kin or another; His exploits are known across the land because his friends tell every soul they meet about a boy called Jon, who takes in hand a b'day YARD, guzzling it down is quite a feet I oft hark to days at 7 Warwick square Where I lived with Joff and Chris Watching soccer, fireworks, BBQ's, friends to share each weekend where nothing was ever amiss; Yet having travelled far and wide, Through dark valleys, across mountains high I'm positive who I want by my side Friends like Justine, Ange JK and Si; Soon to return to the old essex haunt To say hello to my old school friend I'm looking forward to our next jaunt a) So for now my love and like is all I can send; or line b as a finisher b)Beer in lion rouge & a game of pool to end; Got to go as am very hungry; i saw my first Royal albatross on the ferry crossing to the South Island;They are truly humungous; I miss you loads and hope life is looking up; Send JK a hug from me; Your mate Nashy

heya chuck, Sorry for the lack of communication this end, I have been back in HDU but am in a side room again now (yay!) and on the mend hopefully :) I am not surprised that things are taking their toll emotionally now, it's a weird thing but it seems when things are at their toughest people appear to be able to hold it all together, it is after the worst is over that it hits you mentally and after all you have been through you are allowed to feel down; If it helps just remember this - a few weeks ago the only way was down, now with your precious gift of life, you can head onwards and upwards, episodes like this will hopefully only be blips, and you will be dancing out of that hospital and down the isle in no time! Stay strong, stay positive, and focus on heading onwards and upwards! xx

Hi Justine, I am so happy for you, Jon & the family you are doing so well and fighting the ups & down's; I have finaly managed to get a date to meet up with Gavin in a few week so will catch up with everything that has been happening in the past year; You keep strong and a good cry always does a world of good; I read in your diary that you now have a wedding to plan - usually one of the most stressfull things in life but for you and Jon will be amazing as i am sure that at some stage you did not think this would happen! best of luck and my thoughts have been with you all along your fight;

Dear Justine of SmashingVille, Sorry to hear you have been feeling blue but hope things pick up now you can mingle again; Any level of isolation sucks especailly for such a gregarious chipper winner like your'good'self; Hope JK's soothing tones and cheeky smile can put some colour back in your cheeks; I've not been up to much except getting lost in the car; I could do with Mr Moorsey Jnr the mapreader, when he could not direct back home he always said "straight on" & threw the map book onto the back seat (funny thing was it normally worked); I got stuck on a windy 95km dirt road where I needed to move small rocks, beep large cows and avoid fallen trees; It was a beautiful drive (saw some cool waterfalls) but scary because it was like driving on ice and I did not have much fuel! Schoolboy error; Hope some sunny feelings start pouring back into the old think-tank; Have a super smashing great Friday! All my love, hugs, kissessss, luck and happy thoughts enroute tiger ;) oli

Nothing like a good cry when you've had an operation! I blame the anaesthetic and you must have had oodles of that -it's supposed to take ages to get out of the body; People who have had operations are also allowed to be a bit bad-tempered so make the most of that - you just have to guage to moment right not to overdo the bad temper and lose all sympathy; Won't it be fun when all this is behind you! Love and best wishes Ursie

Hi Justine! I’ve been following your journey since May when I stumbled across your site after reading a newspaper article about you… I felt your pain and frustration while you waited – And I felt the incredible joy when some beautiful person saved your life… And reading guestbook – it’s so easy to see that you’re surrounded by incredible love; Justine – I’ve been in your shoes… I suffered with cystic fibrosis for 40 years and it damn near took me out the last five I suffered… I waited almost three years for my beautiful lungs and had four false alarms before a beautiful girl from Iowa, USA, saved my life on my fifth call in April, 2000 – Her name was Kari and she was incredibly precious; I’m six years out of transplant – I lived for 40 years with crappy lungs, the last 3 struggling on oxygen 24/7 with someone pounding on my chest 8 hours every single day… Even though I’m six years out – This breathing stuff just blows my freaking mind every single day… As you recover – I hope you feel everything that I’ve felt over the past six years! Justine – I read that you’re a little depressed… And that’s OK… Between the drugs and all you’ve been through in the past few months, you’ve been on an incredible emotional and physical roller coaster; You’re an incredible person – I know that… I’ve read an awful lot about you… And you’re surrounded by truly beautiful friends and family who love you so dearly; You made it through the scariest part; I’m so proud of you for getting through all of this – And for everything you’ve done to get to this point… Documenting your journey was so very inspirational – And will help so many people in the future; You take care Justine… You be patient and get through all of this… I can’t wait to read about you doing things you love, and being amazed by the beautiful gift you’ve been given – I can’t wait until you break those lungs in and you’re breathing like me; I’ve been lucky enough to learn about the beautiful girl who saved my life – I can see her smile when I close my eyes… I hope someday you are lucky enough to know yours – But it really doesn’t matter because you don’t really need to know a face to know there is a hero in your life… Love, Steve Ferkau Chicago, Illinois USA p;s; Those chicks who jumped out of a plane for you TOTALLY ROCK!!!

Dear Justine, So glad to read your diary entry, I was becoming a little apprehensive; Wasn't sure if no news was good news or not; Your entry was a winner and it proves your a normal (but super lovely of course) young lady who has up days as well as bad days; Any prolonged period away from your home and especially one inside a hospital is always going to be a bummer; Yet as your last paragraph stated there is a whole world out there waiting for you to get out again and start having fun; Miss you and Jakes as much as ever, take care tiger, All my luck and love Oli

Delighted to see your diary entry - was concerned there was no update for a few days; I guess you've been focussed on the transplant for so long, you don't really think past that and the fact that there are other setbacks along the way; But if you think how far you have come and the fact that you can now plan ahead I'm sure you will feel more positive; Also emotionally it's bound to be a roller coaster - you have been through such a lot; Keep smiling!

Have been following your progress with bated breath and was a little bothered not to see any progress reports, so was really pleased to read your diary; You should not be surprised to be a little bit down sometimes - it might make you a little more normal and you can't be floating on the ceiling all the time; You just need to be a bit more patient (no pun intended!) because apart from the recovery itself, you have a lot of baggage to get rid of; You have just done something fairly death-defying and must expect a bit of reaction; Carry on getting well; Love from us both; Doug and Ursie

Dear Justine, You have done something that Oasis, Robbie Williams, Take That and even Cliff Richards could not do - make it big in the states; The more I read your guestbook, the more I am beginning to realise how many new wellwishers / compadres you have on the other side of the pond; Not including the lovely Kingy though as she still counts as part of the Essex massif; Not sure how things are but praying that all is well for you (& JK and the family of course); Currently back in Thames picking up a few extra bits from my school; I am off to Gisbourne tomorrow but have got to check up on the weather as landslides/flooding & torrential rain seemed to have hads it effect on the NZ population (not for the better may I add); Had a close shave in the car today because some monkey overtook me on a bend! Really appreciated missing a head on by a few feet; Had to stop for a sandwich (elevenses - how very English) soon after to celebrate still being in one piece; I am an accident magnet in automibles even when I am driving like Miss Daisy! Quite looking forward to the South Island where there are less poo drivers around; Anyway I am off to bed as its 1am, been trying to watch England in the cricket but eyelids heavy must go to sle; Only kidding; Take care my precious and all my thoughts are with you; L O L Ollie

Dear Justine Le Movie Star, Okay if chest pains are the problem I will think of only warm soothing remedies like hot honey and orange made by a loving ma, a slurpy hot chocolate that melts as it goes down the old gullet, tiger balm on a cold day to warm those aches away; Really missing you my lovely and you are never far from my thoughts; It is 11pm on Saturday night and it has been raining (literally bucketing down since 7am); I have driven with a studying buddy to the Bay of Islands; I would send you a picture but we got none as the cloud cover, mist and rain rather prevented the taking of any cool pictures; I have just knocked up Hoki (a NZ fish) fillets in breadcrumbs and seasoning with a capsicum, carrot and lettuce salad; Not bad but I wish the hobs had dials on so you could tell when its really hot (as my ma always says you have to have the oil sizzling when cooking fish); Will check on your progress tomorrow but pray that your pain is eased slightly; Sleep well tiger and thinking of you as ever; Send my biy Jakesy a hug, wink and kiss from his old housemate; All my luck, love and thoughts enroute, Oliver

Had a problem with my Treo 700P and found your site; I owned a pharmacy specializing in transplant meds; (Check out the Second Wind organization - cool stuff;) Anyway, wanted to let you know all the absolutely mind blowing miracles I was priveleged to witness; Our office was in an apartment complex in St; Louis and many of the 2xLung pts; moved in there while they awaited "the call;" They were always on O2 and usually in wheelchairs; We were always so stoked to hear when they got the call; Our very first patient WALKED into our office on day 7!!! A year later, he was so plump (prednisone) and healthy looking I didn't even recognize him; I'll pray for your speedy recovery; TAKE YOUR MEDS!!!!

Hi Justine, Sorry i have not been intouch for a while; I am sorry that you have had to go back to the ward, But knowing you I am sure that you are coping; I hope you are not struggling to much with the pain, but it must be so good to be able to breathe again; I am just watching the eviction on Big Brother!! Mikey has just been evicted; and I think Nikki will be voted back in; I have really missed her; The weather is a bit cooler now, I am quite relieved ,as it did make me struggle a bit; I used to love to lay in the sun, but never mind, at least i can still get about; I hope you get to go home soon; Keep smiling as you always do Justine; Lots of love x x x x

Hello Tiger, I just wanted to wish you a merry Friday but was dismayed to read you were in any sort of discomfort; I think this call for a serious bout of PMA, I will think really hard about some totally painless (& enjoyable) situations; You never know when it might help; How about being by a sizzling campfire with the aroma of marshmallows wafting by and the crackle of the wood in the air all around you; The wind gusting against your glowing cheeks whilst Jakesy whispers sweet nothings into your ear as you look out over a radient sunset Taking a bathe in a brook with butterflies floating overhead and diminutive birds serenading you with their early morning love songs, joking around on a sea of soft cushions with the floor nowhere to be found, your favourite tunes in the background and dinner on the stove bubbling away! I am sure you can think of happy painless times to ponder but I will keep thinking happy thoughts; I pray you have a good weekend and will be in touch; All my luck, love and thoughts are your this Friday, Oliver

I have never met you but I truly hope that you will beat this; I have lost people in my life that were very dear to me and one of them is battling a different form of a rare liver cancer; I will pray for both of you; The poet Jonn Donne said "No man is an island, entire of itself every man is a piece of the continent, a part of the main if a clod be washed away by the sea, Europe is the less, as well as if a promontory were, as well as if a manor of thy friends or of thine own were any man's death diminishes me, because I am involved in mankind and therefore never send to know for whom the bell tolls it tolls for thee" I hope you get well SOON;

Hi JJ! Hang on in there girly, I know you are itching to get out of hospital & back to 'normal life' but these things unfortunately happen; You & I both know you are a true fighter & will get through this last test, after all you've been through the worst so this is one more little hurdle which I know you can pass; Just be motivated by the pub lunches & Frappuchino's! Sad that I can't come to see you as I haven't had Chicken Pox but will be there like a shot as soon as you are clear! Gotta go now but will leave a message agin soon; Chin up hun! Dear Justine, Happy tuesday tiger? Hope you are having a reltaively comfortable day and the infections are another day down the line to being gone; Will have to check link to shingles as am painfully ignorant in most medical matters; You know me, a scaredy cat who is only too happy not to know much medical wise; Also I have been wondering, who had the pleasure of hosting a BBQ which the splendid dancing queen could attend? I had better go as the cinema is starting soon, will send the review in the next couple of days; Not sure my relations have internet so not sure I will have access for a couple of days; Am back in Auckland and quite glad to be out of Thames after a month; All my love and this rather cold, blustery winters day; Oli Note: Messager added by Webmaster and apologies for it being a day late due to technical problems;

Hi Justine, Just found your website; I wish I would have known about you when I was in England; I'm now back in Dallas, Texas, where I live; I was in England visiting my father in Harefield hospital; The reason he's there is he went in on the 11th of June for a lung operation; A few days after his surgery, he caught the MRSA infection; We were called and told how ill my Dad was and that it was best we come over to see him; We were there for about 2 weeks; Saw my Dad everyday; Did my best to keep him smiling, eating and drinking; They had to put my Dad on a filtering maching due to his kidneys starting to get stressed from the infection; Although, he did start to look better; This is what most of my relatives were telling me; He looked much worse before I jumped on a plane to come over; So things looked better in my mind; The day before my husband and I had to come back, we met with the doctor to discuss my Dad's condition; He told us that my Dad actually digressed and hasn't gotten better; I was completely shocked! There was no way he could have not gotten better? I ended up flying home next morning; But, was able to spend a very nice time with my Dad the night before; He and my husband sat there chatting about life and my Dad didn't look one bit sick; Not at all! It was an awful departure but a good chat with my Dad; Long shorty short;sorry; Flew home the next day and received a call from England the moment I pulled into my driveway; I was told my Father was going to have another surgery to remove some of the MRSA infection and drainage he had on the outer cavity of his left lung; What timing? I would of stayed the extra few days if I knew he was going in for another surgery; I was torn apart after that call; Well, Dad went through surgery; Very successful one! They removed fluid and put in 3 drainage tubes near his left lung; Also, vacummed away the pus and infected areas; He was then moved into ICU; My Dad has been in ICU for 8 days now; He'd become very depressed; Makes me sad; He's had several visitors;the most people I even seen at the hospital; Probably the same as you! But, the nights are very hard for my Dad; Our phone rang this morning with some fantastic news!!! We were told that they swabbed an area of the infected wound/incision area and the swab came back clear!! Very happy to hear that! They then checked some of the mucus he coughs up and did find some of the MRSA infection; They ran test of the strain and found an antibiotic that can get rid of the infection; They have moved him to Ward F (high dependency ward); My Dad is so thrilled; It's the best news for him to be out of ICU and moved to another ward!! I just want to say Justine, I wish you the very best in health and a speedy recovery!! I pray for the MRSA to clear your body and get you back to your art, dancing;enjoying everything you love to do; By the way, my Dad likes to paint as well; He is self-taught; Also enjoys playing the harmonica; He's a lovely man, acts like a kid; He's my pal! I'm am praying like crazy and I truly believe God has a plan for him to live his new life; You see, my Dad went in for a normal check up and they noticed a shadow in an x-ray; It was a shadow on his left lung; When he went in for his physical, he wasn't even feeling sick or anything; He was playing his harmonica, painting, enjoying life; Anyway, they went in and ran more test and discovered a small, pea-size, cancer in his lung; So, he went in on the 11th of June to have the cancer removed and 25% of his lung; The surgery was a success and then a few days later, he contracted the MRSA infection; Cannot believe how it came to this; But, his surgeon "Mister Cooper" and all of the Harefield staff have been doing a terrific job; Great people! Well, all for now; I believe I wrote a BOOK in your GUEST BOOK; Very sorry about that, it's just been very difficult being in the U;S; when my Dad is there in Harefield; Then, when I ran across your website I just had to wish you well! Wish I could of known about you while I was at Harefield! Take Care Justin! I know you'll come out strong!! Keep doing everything to get home! love, Alison Dallas,TX

Hello Justine Details of your website have been passed on to me today from Oliver Nash whom I met at Thames YH, New Zealand a couple of weeks ago; Looking at your pictures of the Trent Park 10k, reminded me of several visits there over the years; I grew up in Whetstone, Borough of Barnet and my Parents spent several years in Potters Bar until they moved from there last year; I've been in NZ for 7 weeks, working here at the moment, but I don't know how long for; When I met Oliver, he told me about your lung transplant; From listening to him and from looking at your website today, I get the impression that you are a very positive lady; This attitude will help you to get through the next few weeks and months of your treatment; As a nurse and having had a friend go theough treatment for breast cancer in 2004 (she also had an extremely positive attitude to the whole experience), I have seen many times how a bright attitude can help; It will not take away the diagnosis, the despair or the "why me", but it will help you to cope with the difficult times; I wish you all the very best for a successful outcome to your treatment; Keep well and away from anyone with "bugs" (unless they're of the bunny kind!); Take care and keep smiling, Chris;

Eye Eye Chicken Pie, How are you today; Your recent updates have filled me with joy, especially the one which included the word PUB! Cool; I am so looking forward to cooking for you when I get back, it will be fantabulous! Johny K must be pleased with the amount of exercise you are doing; I will jjust keeping thinking PMA regarding those pesky infections; I am rather happy ce soir as I have just finished my last teaching practise and it was a blast; The kids were not troublesome at all because the lesson was fun; The game I designed was tricky but they were so competitive it lasted nearly an hour instead of 50 minutes; I got marked down for timing but still got an A so happy as a 'fox in a chicken house'; I am still looking for those answer in my room as it is just piles of paper and toot (hope my ma isn't reading this!); Well got to go and write some reports for tomorrow; Last days interviews and going through coursework then fingers crossed; Miss you loads and even though you are a few kilometres away it always feels that you are right by my side; A very sunny thought to carry me through me days; Send hugs to Jakesy (tell him I wish I had been at that Bergkamp game recently, would have been a blast); All my luck, love, hugs, kisses are winging over the water to YOU as silkily as a NZ Royal albatross inches from the surface of the sea, tasting the salt spray as it goes!
